Cybersecurity certification, for anyone who is just entering the field, is a certification that will help them get more attention as a job candidate.
Property Management Certifications: Everything You Need To Know
The good news is that a background in STEM is not necessary to qualify for a cyber certification. Having a good understanding of IT is always a bonus for anyone working in the tech industry. Cybersecurity certification is especially useful for mobile developers and software engineers. Learning different development platforms and coding languages as well as cybersecurity basics can be an interesting addition to mobile or software engineers.
Once you have a handle on the basics, you can determine which area of cybersecurity you may want to focus on. This will help you decide which certifications to go for next.
Depending on the certification, it can take anywhere from 1.5 – 7 months to prepare for the certification exam. Before a person starts studying for the certification exam, they first learn the programming language they will be working with in the exam and on the job.
At NGT Academy, we realize that it can be difficult to come into cybersecurity from a completely different perspective. In our Zero to Engineering bootcamp, our goal is to break down the barrier to entry-level cybersecurity jobs by providing career changers with valuable knowledge and skills in case-based scenarios. This program is self-paced and students can complete it in 12-24 weeks.
Diamond Certification: A Complete Guide
Before CCID-19, you would have to go to the testing center to take the cyber certification exam, but since the pandemic ban, most exams can be taken at home. This is probably a new way to try. We’ve found that being able to take these tests from the comfort of your own home reduces exam stress. Test takers should expect the remote test proctor to connect via webcam while they are taking the test.
The length of the exam depends on the individual and the level of difficulty of the exam. We found that it takes students around an hour and a half to complete entry-level certification exams, such as CompTIA Security+ and CEH. CISSP has 250 questions, so it can take up to 6 hours to complete. To get more advanced certifications like Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert [CCIE], test takers must first pass a written exam that takes an hour and a half, and then a physical lab that takes all day to complete!
Advanced certifications require a sophisticated understanding of your destination. Getting your first certification, as a vendor-mutual CompTIA Security + enables you to enter-part jobs because it is recognized in all industries. To move up the career ladder, you will need to decide what you would like to focus on or obtain the certifications required by your employer or employer.
Each company will require specific certifications based on what they use, which can help guide you on which certifications to take next. For example, if you want to work in criminal justice, then you should try to get a Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) certification. If you are trying to become a Penetration Tester, check out the CompTIA PenTest+ certification. Choose a path and then check which certifications will provide growth in your chosen career.
How To List Certifications On A Resume (with Examples)
To work in cybersecurity, you need to be a people person. You must enjoy communicating and working with people in order to provide the need for cyber security training within your organization. Few people outside of the cybersecurity or networking fields understand how cyber works and how security systems are breached. Being able to communicate and explain solutions to people is the greatest soft skill you can develop. We have made sure to include a skills-based component within the NGT Academy Cyber Security Associate Certification (NCSA) training. NGT Academy Cybersecurity students should be able to break down an industry application case, articulate a problem and solution in a professional manner.
We predict that in the near future there will be more certifications in the areas of mobile security and DevOps security. DevOps is a rapidly growing field and new roles are constantly being defined. As new DevOps certifications come down the pipeline in 2021, we recommend you jump on that!
